Dancing Phalanges - October 17, 2012

Well, it's been one of those weeks.  I never got a blog written on Monday, and here it is, almost 11:30 at night, and I'm just now getting Wednesday's blog posted.  (*sigh*)  You all know how it is.  You already have too much to do, and then things start popping up out of nowhere, most of which are dire emergencies.  Anyway, after dealing with a minor crisis today, I don't feel up to much more than writing about a few relatively trivial things, namely nai... "You can hear me on the radio..." - October 12, 2012

Thank you, Reba, for that introduction, and my 4 (almost 5) year old niece for introducing me to that song.  (She even props up her Ken doll in a chair and sings to it just like Reba sings to the tied up man in her video. Yes, it's hilarious.) But, seriously, I'm being interviewed on the radio for the first time today, so you really can hear me.  The gracious Sarah Delia and Julia Meek will be hosting me on their show Midday Matters: ArtCentric on No... Tuning In - October 10, 2012

I have to say, I'm not much of a TV watcher.  I would simply rather read or do something else with my free time.  Although, now that we have a DVR, I do find I watch more than I used to.  I have my regular line-up of shows I record, and I love when late September and late January roll around and we get to check out the new shows the networks debut.  But rarely do any of the new shows make it into my regular line-up.  It's... Monday Matters - October 8, 2012

Happy Monday, everyone!  I had a great time in Cleveland at Bouchercon, and met so many wonderful people, but I'm glad to be home, and ready to get back to work.  One of the highlights of my trip was definitely my lunch meeting with my editor, the lovely and talented Michelle Vega.  We had a great time chatting and catching up, and I was beyond ecstatic when she surprised me with my first copy of the final version of The Anatomist's Wife, hot off the press... Bouchercon - October 3, 2012

Tomorrow (Thursday) I leave for Bouchercon World Mystery Convention in Cleveland, Ohio.  This will be my first time to attend Bouchercon, and only my second Writers' Conference.  I'm excited and nervous all at once, and definitely looking forward to it.  I will meet with both my editor and publicist for the first time, and interact with fellow authors, as well as mystery fans.  I'm particularly eager to meet Julia Spencer-Fleming, one of my favorite authors, who so graci... Monday Matters - October 1, 2012

After months of seemingly endless waiting and slow progress towards publication, things are beginning to speed up now that The Anatomist's Wife's release date is only a little over a month away.  Reviews have started to come in, including this 4 Star Review I was thrilled to receive from RT Book Reviews. "Huber's protagonist is complex and likeable and the well-plotted mystery is filled with fascinating secondary characters. The setting is lavishly portrayed, yet the story's... Refocus - September 28, 2012

As many of you know, my husband and I follow the "Ask, Believe, Receive" principle.  We learned it from the book The Secret, but have tweaked it to work best for us and our beliefs.  I truly believe it works, but whether or not it actually does is not the point..  The important thing is that I believe it does, and because of this I'm happier.  I choose to be happy and believe good things are happening to me.  You can be cynical and say this is na... Before THE END - September 21, 2012

Writing the end of a novel is always tricky.  There are all types of loose ends that need tied up, plot lines that need to intersect, character arcs that need to reach some kind of conclusion.  It's far too easy to feel overwhelmed as you near the last page.  What if you drop one of those plot threads completely?  What if they're too twisted up to unravel?  What if your finale is clunky? In the middle, when I sit down to do my plotting, I make sure to write ou... Click Here To Read More >>
